Primary Wave Music is an American music publisher based in New York and Los Angeles. Signed artists with the publisher include Hall & Oates, Chicago, Kurt Cobain, Steve Earle, Steven Tyler, Bo Diddley and most recently, Jessica Simpson. The music is distributed in North America by EMI.[1]
Primary Wave Music Publishing was founded in January 2006 with the purchase of fifty percent of the Kurt Cobain music catalog.[2] Some of the company's marketing campaigns have included designing sneakers inscribed with Kurt Cobain's lyrics, creating a lottery game based on Aerosmith songs, and developing an animated web series called "J-Stache" starring John Oates' mustache. In December 2009 Primary Wave announced a strategic partnership with Def Leppard to market and administer the band's song catalog.[3] In May 2010, Primary Wave Music launched the Motel 6 "Rock Yourself to Sleep" tour featuring the bands Every Avenue, Sing it Loud, The Secret Handshake, and There for Tomorrow.
